Bollé sunglasses are announcing their partnership with RS as title sponsor of three RS class event series in 2012. The sponsorships are the Bollé RS Feva Grand Prix Circuit, a popular series of four events attended by around 200 boats, and the Bollé RS 200 and RS 400 Northern Tours, a circuit of five and eight open events respectively across the northern counties. In addition, Bollé will be a secondary sponsor of the RS Feva World championship at Hayling Island Sailing Club in June, an event anticipated to attract over 200 entries.
Bollé are already an Official Supplier to the RYA’s Skandia Team GBR and their Marine Sunglasses Collection has been thoroughly road tested by the Team in the build up to 2012.
This announcement is one of a number of new marine initiatives as Bollé set out to increase understanding of the importance of good eye protection for sailors of all ages and all levels.
The sailing environment is an unforgiving one for human eyesight, with a frequent mix of harsh glare, poor visibility and bright sunshine. Left unprotected in these conditions, the eyes, eyelids and the sensitive skin around the eyes are susceptible to serious UV damage, which may not transpire until later in life. Danger to the eyes through impact from flying/moving objects, such as a rope end or trapeze handle, cannot be under estimated and this is where Bollé lenses are also key. They are made of premium-grade resin polycarbonate, that is impact resistant, whilst giving unrivalled precision and clarity.
Andrew Grose, Managing Director of Bollé says, “Sailors are very aware of the need for skin protection, although there seems considerably less awareness of the importance of top quality eye protection, especially for young people. Bollé’s Marine Collection is designed to over come all the challenges afloat. Using the latest optical technologies, our embedded polarization and anti-reflective coatings eliminate distracting glare, to help sailors ‘see the breeze’ on the water and give ultimate clarity, protection and comfort. Plus, our hydrophobic coating repels water to keep vision clear. And, most importantly, they stay on your face during boat handling and fast manoeuvres!”
Martin Wadhams, Managing Director of RS Sailing comments; “We are delighted to have Bollé, an industry leader in eyewear, to come on board and support our highly popular RS 200, RS 400 and RS Feva classes. We have an exciting season lined up, especially with the RS Feva Worlds in the UK. Bolle’s support will be appreciated by all our class members, across all three fleets. And, we love the product so much, it’s already going into our new LDC Sailing store at Abbey Park in Romsey.”
Competitors in the Bollé RS Feva Grand Prix Circuit 2012, and the Bollé RS 200 and RS 400 Northern Tours can expect a generous supply of Bollé’s marine sunglasses as prizes at their events throughout 2012.
